Atlas Tales is started out as a personal - never meaning to be public - project by Greg Gatlin. With the influx of data and not way to organize it except through emails, a database
was built and a web interface slowly constructed. It was even hosted on his home DSL connection. When it was suggested that information that was being thrown about be collected,
the nascent Atlas Tales was born. Now in it's 3rd year and going strong, we are dedicated to continuing this experiment into perpetuity ... or longer.
This website could not exist without the network of fanatics that volunteer their precious research and donate images at the peril of their treasured books. Their passion is what drives this site
and keeps the information flowing forth. Atlas Tales will continue the march towards indexing nirvana, as long as we have a keybord and mouse, the fight will remain.

Technologies used:
PHP5. PHP is a very popular programming language that is simple enough for beginners while
still powerful enough for advanced geeks.
AtlasTales leverages the power and speed of PHP and takes full advantage of the advanced object oriented structures available in PHP5.
Smarty. Smarty is a template engine for PHP. It features advanced caching abilities that will speed up
the page delivery to the end user. It is also handy in separating the data logic and display logic - thereby making changes to the look and feel of the site
independent of the data structure.
PEAR. PEAR is a PHP code repository that makes it possible for Atlas Tales to add features more
rapidly at a higher success rate. If someone has already written and tested the
code, why not use it?
MySQL. MySQL is a fast full featured relational database - ideal for web usage.
Hosting. Dreamhost has been very good to us. Lots of storage and plenty of bandwidth in
an affordable package.
Atlas Tales now also features a full development environment and use of the CVS code versioning system.
With separate production and development environments, the addition of new
features will not impact your enjoyment of the site. We will be able to literally change everything and not affect the everyday site usage.
