Notes
Rudolph "Rudy" Lapick died suddenly Friday, February 27, 2004. Rudy was born November 17, 1926 in the Bronx and married his loving wife Mary Zema on May 30, 1948 and moved to Yonkers shortly thereafter. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary; his parents, Rudolph and Florence and his brother, John. His sister Gioia, daughter, Lorraine McGovern and her husband, John; two sons, Rudy Jr. and John and grandchildren, Michael and Gina and numerous related families survive him. Rudy was an artist / inker for Archie Comics in Mamaroneck, NY for nearly 50 years and was known for his sense of humor, actor impressions and movie quotes all of which he loved. Gene Colan has reported on the Gene Colan list that his long-time close friend, and former Timely bullpen staff inker, Rudy Lapick has passed away. For those who don't know, Rudy was Dan DeCarlo's de facto inker for the majority of Dan's career both at Timely and for the long run at Archie. Our own Jim Amash did a wonderful 5-page interview with Rudy back in ALTER EGO #22 (Mar/03) where Rudy gives us an additional window into the Timely bullpen of the late 1940's, giving us invaluable names and stories to help shed more light into that time. Without Rudy's interview we wouldn't have known that it was John Cuddy who was inking De Carlo "before" Lapick took over. He also put additional names on staff that I had no idea of, including Bob Stuart and Larry Tullipano. -Doc V.
