Notes: Rusty asks Johnny to get her a copy of "'Always Emerald," and allusion to Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor (Macdonald & Co., London, 1944); fourteen states banned the book as pornography, due to its 70 references to sexual intercourse, 39 illegitimate pregnancies, seven abortions, and ten descriptions of women undressing in front of men.
