When The Martians Strike!

Notes: Signed story by Gil Evans (one of his last?). The Martians gather their forces to attack Earth. It seems as if nothing can be done to stop their fleet of spaceships, until a business man called Percival Q. Perry offers to let the military use his toy balloons... and they throw him out. He decides to do it alone, and manages to scare the Martians away with a real size balloon copy of the Earth -- man, would he have been out of breath. - Ger A.

Sleep, My Love!

Notes: Before the first page is over and done with, Ralph Durkin kills his wife because she is a witch. But because she is a witch she promises to kill him at night, when he is asleep. He decides to sleep in the daytime... but where do you think he ends up? (hint: it's always night there for half of the year.) - Ger A.

The Weaker Sex!

Notes: The caption on the first splash probably obscures the signature, but my guess is that this might be a solo story by Dick Ayers (unassisted by his regular inker at the time, Bache). It's drawn in a slightly exaggarated style, which fits the story well. Mike Benson is not a happy man. He has to do all the housework, while his wife is away at women's club meetings, supporting the election of a woman for president. When he goes into work for a raise, he is fired and replaced by a woman. And when he argues with his wife about staying home for a change, she pushes him aside and he hits his head against a table. In the hospital for an emergency operation, he finally realizes the truth... women are plotting to take over the world. They live longer than men... they own more real estate... they support wars where men lose their lives... they seldom get vthe death penalty... and there's more. He tells the doctor who is about to operate on him... but unfortunately, she's a woman too. - Ger A.

The City!

Notes: A scary story about an underground city, where people seek shelter during a great war and slowly lose their humanity -- so much so, that when centuries later their decendants return to Earth and try to free them, they drop an atomic bomb and kill everyone. - Ger A.

Terror In Time

Notes: Gonar is a man who hates life and seeks for better things in sorcery and ancient spells. After an explosion in his laboratory, he gets transported to the time of the Pilgrims, where he uses his knowledge of the past to predict the future. But it's Salem... and his new gifts seem a lot like witchcraft... so who can predict the outcome here? - Ger A.
